Background

In January 2009, the Administration of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) created the Evaluation Office (ODE by its acronym in spanish), with independence from its Business Cycle (BC) and attached to the Office of the Chief Economist (OEJ), in order to adopt an international best practice of institutional self-evaluation, recommended by the Evaluation Cooperation Group (ECG). Later in 2011, the process was strengthened by CABEI's "Plan for the Modernization of CABEI (Reforms, Outlines and Strategic Actions)" where functional reforms were instructed to help strengthen the Bank's strategic-institutional evaluation and monitoring mechanisms.

The tasks of the ODEI were redesigned in 2012, a new unit that reports to the Board was created.
